The event, which was attended by distinguished representatives from academia, business and politics, focused on the professional inclusion of people with disabilities. Ensuring that as many people with disabilities as possible have access to employment is a primary objective of labor market and social policy - and at the same time the basis for research at the Center for Disability and Integration at the University of St.Gallen (HSG).
Bill Clinton during his opening address
The event was opened by the former President of the United States, William Jefferson Clinton, who spoke about the responsibility of companies for the professional inclusion of people with disabilities. He expressed his conviction that the most urgent political and social problems can only be solved jointly by governments, the private sector and non-governmental organisations.
At the press conference with representatives of the business community, it was emphasized how economically viable the inclusion of people with disabilities is. The director of the CDI-HSG, Prof. Dr. Stephan Böhm, emphasized not only the benefits that employment brings to people with disabilities, but also the positive effects for companies.
